The early days of recovery can be challenging. Medication-assisted treatment methods, called MAT, can often help. At BrightView, we do not offer traditional detox, but MAT as a form of outpatient treatment in our recovery center in Ohio. When you are ready to start the healing process, our team at BrightView Health is here to help you.

What Are Medication Assisted Treatment Methods?

Medication-assisted treatment methods aim to reduce some of the pain and cravings from drug withdrawal to better allow you to break your dependence. We use medication but we also combine this with behavioral therapies and counseling to provide ongoing treatment services for drug and alcohol addiction. These are medications approved by the FDA as treatments for addiction. They are safe to use for most people.

What Are the Benefits of MAT?

Medication-assisted treatment methods offer a range of benefits to those with addiction. It is clinically proven to work to reduce your need for drug use. It can also help to reduce the need for inpatient care, allowing you to safely recover from home. With a tailored medication regimen, it is possible for you to start to heal. This can mean less risk of relapse, better overall quality of life, and reduced pain.

What Types of Medications Are Used in This Type of Treatment?

The medications given to you have to combat the specific type of drugs you’re taking while also taking into account the withdrawal symptoms you have. Some of the medications that may be used include:

  • Naltrexone (Vivitrol)
  • Buprenorphine (Subutex, Suboxone, and Zubsolv)
  • Methadone
  • Acamprosate
  • Disulfiram

These medications are designed to combat what’s happening in your body. They also work as a semi-synthetic form of opioids (if that is the type of dependency you have). In that way, they can trick the body into believing that you are taking those drugs. These types of medications can be used over a period of months or years to help improve your health.

What Else Happens in Medication Assisted Treatment?

When you come in for a consultation about outpatient treatment, our team will talk to you about all of the options available to help you. We may recommend medication assisted treatment methods as a starting point. This provides medications so you can start to recover without painful withdrawal symptoms or cravings. It is also not the only service that you need. You’ll also begin working on the mental health and behavioral counseling that you need as well. This is a time when you will work with your addiction professionals to learn about your addiction. Within our recovery center, we use evidence-based and holistic treatment methods to treat the whole body, mind, and spirit. You’ll engage in individual therapy as well as group therapy sessions, as they fit your needs. You’ll gain the confidence you need to enter recovery.
