Mr. Smith is one of the founders of BrightView and handles daily operations, corporate compliance, legal representation, corporate strategy, and enterprise technology and infrastructure. He is also an attorney and certified HIPAA security professional who has focused his career on healthcare operations, technology and compliance. Prior to joining BrightView, he co-founded a series of healthcare technology companies where he managed technical and professional service teams, oversaw business development and sales, and acted as the privacy officer. He serves on the Board of Advisors for the Northern Kentucky University, College of Health Informatics, where he teaches courses focused on the intersection of law and healthcare technology. Mr. Smith obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Akron, Master of Science in Health Informatics from Northern Kentucky University, and his Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law.
Shawn A. Ryan, MD, MBA, ABEM, ABAM
One of BrightView’s founders, Dr. Ryan is responsible for strategic development, alignment of operations and medical practice, clinical and outcomes research, and maintaining focus on the mission and vision of the company. For over 12 years, he has practiced in the Greater Cincinnati area. During that time, he functioned as a hospital administrator for Mercy Health (Department Chairman of Quality and Patient Safety). There, he saw how heroin/opioid abuse affected communities and for the past 7 years, has worked tirelessly to help resolve it. He serves on regional, state, and national committees/workgroups focused on turning the tide of this epidemic. He is the immediate past president of the Ohio Society of Addiction Medicine and the Chair of Payer Relation for ASAM. A board-certified addiction specialist and a board-certified emergency physician, Dr. Ryan trained in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati and simultaneously obtained his MBA while completing his residency.
Navdeep Kang, Psy.D., HSP, CGP
Dr. Kang is a psychologist and the Chief Clinical Officer for BrightView Health. After spending over five years leading all behavioral health services for Mercy Health, the largest health system in Cincinnati, Dr. Kang joined BrightView for the opportunity to develop, implement, and research best-practices in addiction treatment and to add to the growing national conversation about what constitutes quality service delivery and positive outcomes in addiction medicine. He has devoted his professional efforts to advancing healthcare access and quality, particularly as related to behavioral health.
Beginning in 2016, Dr. Kang led the formation and operations of the Addiction Treatment Collaborative, a multi-agency treatment-on-demand network of care for addiction medicine services covering southwest Ohio. In 2017, the Mercy Health Foundation selected him for its system-level Clinician of the Year Award. In 2018, the Obama Foundation selected Dr. Kang for its inaugural two-year Fellowship class, a group of twenty civic innovators from around the world chosen by President & Mrs. Obama for their efforts in addressing the most intractable problems of our time. In 2019, the National Quality Forum selected Dr. Kang for its Technical Expert Panel on Opioid Use and Opioid Use Disorder and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine appointed him to a four-year term on the RecoveryOhio Advisory Council, a group tasked with redefining how the state delivers behavioral healthcare to its residents.
Dr. Kang lives in Kentucky with his wife and four young children.
Dylan Jackson, MBA
Mr. Jackson brings his experience investing in the private equity markets and leading growth in operating companies to BrightView, where he leads new facility growth, corporate development, outreach, and marketing. Prior to joining BrightView, he was an investment professional at Orchard Holdings Group and The Sterling Group. Before that, he worked at Procter and Gamble as a capital projects manager and a new product delivery leader. Mr. Jackson has an MBA from Harvard Business School and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
Brad Barker, MBA
Mr. Barker ensures BrightView’s financial health so we can continue to provide comprehensive care to those in need. Prior to joining BrightView, he spent over 10 years assisting in the growth and success of small and middle market companies. He believes BrightView’s compassionate, evidence-based approach to care is what people need in addiction treatment services. Mr. Barker has an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and Bachelor degrees in Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Schodrof joined BrightView as Chief Operating Officer after playing an integral operations role as he helped ATI Physical Therapy grow to nearly 900 clinics nationwide. He began his career as a clinician, serving patients in both hospital and independent outpatient settings. He believes strongly that utilizing research to develop an individualized treatment program, along with providing excellent customer service, is a winning formula in healthcare and is happy to have found a home at Brightview where the mission aligns with this approach. Mr. Schodrof leverages his expertise to promote process improvement, org chart structuring, and leadership development. This helps ensure consistency at each center so that every patient has the same great experience and quality outcome regardless of which BrightView center they visit. Mr. Schodrof earned his Masters of Physical Therapy from Midwestern University.
