Induction at BrightView
Please plan to be at BrightView for the entire day. This will be the longest day that you spend at our facility.
We ask that you arrive to our office in a semi-withdrawn state, which means:
- Not using methadone** or long-acting painkillers for at least 48-72 hours
- Not using heroin or short-acting painkillers for 24 hours
- Abstaining from drinking alcohol for 24 hours
** This means that you must be tapered down to less than 30 mgs per day by the start of your 48-72 hour withdrawal period.
This will allow our staff to medically assess the appropriate level of care that you require.
In addition, if you are in a semi-withdrawn state, the medicine will help lessen the withdrawal symptoms. However, if you are not in withdrawal, the medicine will “override” the opioids already in your system, which will cause severe withdrawal symptoms.
If you are NOT in withdrawal, please notify our staff immediately.

REGISTRATION & ASSESSMENT
You will be asked to fill out and sign the following forms:

MEDICAL INDUCTION & VITALS
You will then be accompanied into our office by one of our medical assistants or sta to check your vitals and complete a urine screen. We ask you to do this so we can get the most accurate measure of the composition of your current chemical make-up.
Urine screens will test for: THC, opiates, cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine, buprenorphine, barbiturates, benzodiazepine, MDMA, methadone, oxycodone, and phencyclidine (PCP).
Your vitals (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, breathing rate) will be taken to use in conjunction with the Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale.
The professional conducting the health assessment is a Certified Addiction Registered Nurse, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Level 3, and/or a Registered Health Information Technician.
They will ask you about your current medications, any allergies, your preferred pharmacy, and any symptoms of withdrawal that you’re currently experiencing.
CLINICAL INTAKE ASSESSMENT
The intake assessment process consists of meeting with one of our licensed professional counselors or social workers to discuss the expectations of the program and gather a general understanding of the reasons why you’re seeking treatment. Our counselors will ask you to provide us with general information such as family history of use, your current living situation, your highest level of education, any legal history, employment history, as well as history of abuse. Our counselors will also answer any questions you may have regarding our facility, the intake procedure, what to expect from our program, and treatment recommendations.
The most vital part of your assessment day occurs during this transaction of information from patient to clinician. Through this exchange, we hope to gain a better understanding of the treatment you seek and the help that you deserve. In conjunction with our doctors, our clinical counseling staff determines the proper level of care that you require.
Levels of care provided at BrightView include:
- Outpatient which requires attending one, three-hour group session per week as well as one hour long individual counseling session and physician appointment per month.
- Moderate Outpatient which requires attending two, three-hour group counseling sessions per week as well as one hour long individual counseling session and physician appointment per month.
- Intensive Outpatient which requires attending eight hours of group counseling per week, divided between three separate sessions. Two sessions that are three hours long and one session that is two hours long as well as one individual counseling session and physician appointment per month.
Please be mindful that wait time after initial assessment to see the doctor may vary due to earlier scheduled appointments and flow of patients within the office. We will do our best to keep you comfortable.
You will be escorted to the patient lounge until you’re asked to see the doctor. The doctor will discuss presenting problems with you and asses your needs. The doctor will answer questions and address any concerns regarding your treatment. The doctor will start the prior authorization of medications as well as ordering comfort medications for withdrawal symptoms.
Our transportation officer will then escort you to the pharmacy.
Upon returning from the pharmacy, the nursing staff will inspect the medication, educate you on administering the medication, and count the buprenorphine product. We provide instructions regarding eating**, drinking and smoking. We ask that you do not to eat, drink, or smoke 20 minutes before and after taking the buprenorphine product.
If you’ve smoked, eaten, or drank prior to returning to BrightView, the nursing staff will ensure that you wait the appropriate length of time to ensure proper administration of the medication.
You are then observed taking the first dose of buprenorphine product, by placing the medication under the tongue or in the case of Bunavail the medication is placed on the inside of the cheek.
During this next one to three hours, you are asked to please remain in the patient lounge which is dimly lit and furnished with comfortable seating. This is a quiet atmosphere where we provide you with pillows and blankets as well. Patients are encouraged to take this time to sleep if they feel the need as each medication may have a different physiological effect on their body.
Please note that the entire process could potentially take several hours due to each person’s physiological responses to their medication.
The medical team will then reassess you prior to discharge. At discharge you will be provided with detailed instructions about the 2nd day of induction.
**We offer water, vending and complimentary small snacks. However, we ask that you provide your own lunch.
